Mensas in Osnabrück

There are two Mensas in Osnabrück:

  1. Mensa Schlossgarten (city center)
    Building No. M (Ritterstraße 10)
    Location on Google Maps

  2. Mensa Westerberg (Westerberg)
    Building No. M-W (Barbarastraße 20)
    Location on Google Maps

Both Mensas also have a cafeteria.

How do you eat and pay in the Mensa?

Before talking about the food, it’s important to explain how you can pay in the Mensa.

Payment Options

  1. Paying with your student ID card
    (More about the student ID card in the “Buildings” section)

    • The card must be topped up at special top-up machines beforehand.
    • There are 29 top-up machines in total (3 of them in Mensa Schlossgarten).
    • You can top up with cash or cashless (debit card, credit card, Girocard).
    • With the student ID card, you automatically get the lowest price.
    • To pay, place your card on the reader.

  2. Paying with debit card, credit card, or Girocard

    • You must always show your student ID card or place it on the reader.
      Otherwise, you pay the full price instead of the cheaper student price.

How do you eat in Mensa Schlossgarten?

  1. When you enter, you’ll see the today’s menu on the screens.
  2. The stairs on the right lead to the dining area.
  3. Usually, both food counters are open; during semester breaks, usually only one.

Procedure

  1. Take a tray
  2. Choose your food
    • Left: Salad buffet (self-service, price by weight)
    • Or: Food counter (ready-made plates)
  3. Pay
    • At the staff or via self-service (language can be switched to English)
    • Place salad buffet plate on the scale
  4. Take cutlery
    • Behind the checkout area
    • Various spices available
  5. Find a seat
  6. Eat in peace
  7. Return your tray
    • Throw away napkins, everything else stays on the tray
  8. Say thank you and goodbye
  9. Go home

General & Tips for the Mensa

  • Own cup:
    For hot drinks from the cafeteria, you can bring your own cup or use one from the cafeteria.

    • With your own cup: €0.10 cheaper
    • Without your own cup: €0.20 more expensive than on the price list

  • Deposit machine:
    There is a machine for glasses and plastic bottles in the foyer of the Mensa.
    Here you can return bottles you bought in the Mensa or cafeteria.

  • Take-away food:
    There is reusable tableware for take-away.
